Bio:
Americana duo Tyro Marks has have been described as "if Chance Gardner from the movie "Being There" had a a child with Willie Nelson and was then adopted by Wilco". -Dylan Wissing
They are releasing their first record entitled "Iowa" in November of 2010. To promote the record, they will be performing throughout the New York area as well as a touring in early 2011.
One-half Steven Cohen (co-founder of Skidmore Fountain), the other half, Laura Torma, Tyro Marks was born in Brooklyn in 2007. Steven Cohen, vocalist, guitarist and songwriter, was first inspired to put together the duo while driving cross-country from Arizona. Stopping in dusty old towns along the way, on warm, quiet nights under the Western stars, he sat with his guitar, his notepaper and pencil and sketched out his retrospectives on life and love. So much of what Steven wrote would become material for "Iowa". When Steven met Laura Torma, opera, folk, gospel and pop chameleon, at a karaoke competition in 2007, Steven had found the vocalist who would round out the sound he was searching for.
Tyro Marks has performed at dozens of venues throughout New York City including the Living Room, Cameo Gallery and Jack's Coffee. They also did a short tour in Japan in 2009 and can be heard playing on radio RCB Novus Ordo. They are working hard on expanding their performances in festivals and special events throughout the US, as well as continuing to write music inspired by the great American songwriter of the past.

Steven Cohen:
Much like the Beastie Boys, Steven Cohen grew up in an orthodox Jewish home where Talmud rather than the arts were discussed around the dinner table. At the age of 12, Steven was injured by an explosion of his own making so that he had no vision for months. During this time, his ears and heart were opened up to the sound of music.
With his Bar Mitzvah money, he bought a BC Rich guitar and would go on to play professionally from a young age at venues throughout the Denver, CO area. In addition to 90s grunge and Prog Rock, Steven also deeply absorbed the sounds of classical and Jazz through a full music scholarship to study classical guitar at the University of Arizona. Eventually he discovered the music of Bob Dylan, John Prine, Tom Waits, Irving Berlin, Willie Nelson and Johnny Cash which would make him decide to dedicate himself to the great American songwriting tradition.
Steven has performed throughout the US and Japan with Tyro Marks as well as a founding member of the now defunct group Skidmore Fountain. His songs have been featured on MTV as well as played throughout the country on college radio. Currently, his solos guitar works can be heard on display at the National Museum of American Jewish History in Philadelphia. He can be found playing throughout New York with his band, Tyro Marks.
