Bio:
Americana duo Tyro Marks has have been described as "if Chance Gardner from the movie "Being There" had a a child with Willie Nelson and was then adopted by Wilco". -Dylan Wissing
They are releasing their first record entitled "Iowa" in November of 2010. To promote the record, they will be performing throughout the New York area as well as a touring in early 2011.
One-half Steven Cohen (co-founder of Skidmore Fountain), the other half, Laura Torma, Tyro Marks was born in Brooklyn in 2007. Steven Cohen, vocalist, guitarist and songwriter, was first inspired to put together the duo while driving cross-country from Arizona. Stopping in dusty old towns along the way, on warm, quiet nights under the Western stars, he sat with his guitar, his notepaper and pencil and sketched out his retrospectives on life and love. So much of what Steven wrote would become material for "Iowa". When Steven met Laura Torma, opera, folk, gospel and pop chameleon, at a karaoke competition in 2007, Steven had found the vocalist who would round out the sound he was searching for.
Tyro Marks has performed at dozens of venues throughout New York City including the Living Room, Cameo Gallery and Jack's Coffee. They also did a short tour in Japan in 2009 and can be heard playing on radio RCB Novus Ordo. They are working hard on expanding their performances in festivals and special events throughout the US, as well as continuing to write music inspired by the great American songwriter of the past.

Band Member Bios:
Steven Cohen:
Much like the Beastie Boys, Steven Cohen grew up in an orthodox Jewish home where Talmud rather than the arts were discussed around the dinner table. At the age of 12, Steven was injured by an explosion of his own making so that he had no vision for months. During this time, his ears and heart were opened up to the sound of music.
With his Bar Mitzvah money, he bought a BC Rich guitar and would go on to play professionally from a young age at venues throughout the Denver, CO area. In addition to 90s grunge and Prog Rock, Steven also deeply absorbed the sounds of classical and Jazz through a full music scholarship to study classical guitar at the University of Arizona. Eventually he discovered the music of Bob Dylan, John Prine, Tom Waits, Irving Berlin, Willie Nelson and Johnny Cash which would make him decide to dedicate himself to the great American songwriting tradition.
Steven has performed throughout the US and Japan with Tyro Marks as well as a founding member of the now defunct group Skidmore Fountain. His songs have been featured on MTV as well as played throughout the country on college radio. Currently, his solos guitar works can be heard on display at the National Museum of American Jewish History in Philadelphia. He can be found playing throughout New York with his band, Tyro Marks.

Track Name: Spinning Round
I miss you so much
I miss your touch
And I'm
Riding on a plane

I feel so down
I want to get high
And I’ m
Drowning in this rain

Chorus:
And I want to hear your voice
You’ re whispering in my ear
And I want to have a choice
I want to have you near

My paper is wet
My teardrop reminds me
Never to forget

My seatbelts on tight
I turn off my light
I watch
You disappear in the night

I’ m spinning round and round 2X
I’ m wondering if you care for me like I care for you
Track Name: Nothing Seems To Last Around Here
I ran away with the woman I loved
We rand away to the promised land
Big city dreams running through my head
Big city magazines flipping through my hands
Didn’ t understand when you whispered in my ear
Nothing seems to last round here

You were running away from your dad
With you and your mom he had a heavy hand
I came in to the store one night
I closed the door and we turned out the light
Didn’ t understand when you whispered in my ear
Nothing seems to last round here

Chorus:
I don’ t know why we said goodbye
I don’ t know how we lost those years
We were meant to be lovers anywhere
Anywhere but here
Cause nothing seems to last round here

You got a job keeping coffee warm
I says that’ s fine but it’ s what you did before
I had my days to roam around the roads
Sit in the square watch the young and the old
Now I understand when you whispered in my ear
Nothing seems to last round here
Track Name: Iowa
In the middle, of 1989
My father my mother
My sisters and I
Stayed the night in Lincoln
Or in some other town
Where the tulips, grow all year round

Driving through the fields of Iowa
Trying to get to Waterloo tonight
Kids are dreaming, windows down
I never left you far behind

The summers were long then
the bugs lit up the night
Catch one in a bottle
It dims out the light
Piano in the basement
A mural on the wall
We were all together
We were all

Driving through the fields of Iowa
Trying to get to Waterloo tonight
Kids are dreaming, windows down
I never left you far behind

And now we are together
I wouldnt rather be anywhere
And Im so happy
Where we have come from
Track Name: Running Away
I'm Running Away, I'm Running Away
There's Nothing Left for me to stay
I'm tired of you breaking my heart
That's why i'm running away, i'm running away

I'm coming back just to get my things
I don't really need to but I want to see
If there's anything left in my heart
That's why i'm running away i'm running away

You give me nothing left to find
but shattered pieces of my heart
and empty shadows left in time
That's why i'm running away this time

Now that I have finally run away
I see the world spinning around again
I can't believe how long I stayed
I'm running away, i'm running away
Track Name: 100 Lifetimes Away
If you have ever been in love
And you think you moved on
Never really move on
Never go back to the start

When all love is gone
Memory is still strong
Think you are going to move on
Moving with a broken heart
A broken heart

And your memory will fade
You think you found a way
And you'll find that memory you thought was yesterday
Is now 100 lifetimes away

If you have ever had a dream and you never moved on
Never really moved on, after all feeling is gone
Now you are all alone, You moved from your home
Think you are going to move on, moving with a broken Heart
A broken heart
Track Name: Hotel Cafe
Don't have too much money, And I read about life in Berlin
Not that I don't like working, Don't like the job that i'm in

My best friends a real estate agent, He gets out of work at 3
I might make more money, But its time that I need

I cant believe I moved here
Im leaving today
Take me away to the Hotel Cafe, you wont see me around here no more

My sister living in Denver, Just bought a new house with her man
Im paying too much in Brooklyn, Feels like i'm living in a van

Chorus

Now that I live in LA and I don't have money for a car
I'm so far from being a star, Im moving back to New York

Chorus

They won't let me play at the Hotel Cafe
So I will be leaving here tonight
Track Name: In Your Arms
It wasn't long ago I was singing songs of a broken heart
and drinking wine to cover the pain
I thought you were gone, waited to long back to the start
now you wipe my tears away

Sometimes everything needs to fly away before there comes another day,
Sometime you need to lose yourself

And everything that's gone wrong
and every song that I have sung
For once Im right were where I belong
Ever time you lose yourself
Come back together and feel like someone else
For once I am right where I belong
Im in your arms

When I was just a child
I remember thinking
What will I be when I grow?
So many moons have passed, with me thinking,
There is nothing left to show

Sometimes everything needs to fly away before there comes another day,
Sometime you need to lose yourself

And everything that's gone wrong
and every song that I have sung
For once Im right were where I belong
Ever time you lose yourself
Come back together and feel like someone else
For once I am right where I belong
Im in your arms

Im in your arms...is right where I want to be.
Track Name: Floating Down The River
When the sun shines
Through the treelines
With intentions true
Feel my heart beat
When Our eyes meet
When Im close to you

We will drift away from here
So effortlessly
Two hearts on a sphere
Floating down the river

In the evening
The moon is thinking
With intentions true
Feel the yearning
Wood is burning
When I am close to you

We will drift away from here
So effortlessly
Two hearts on a sphere
Floating down the river
Track Name: Write Myself A Letter
Some day I am going to sit down and write myself a letter
Make a list of everything that I have done
Some day I am going to sit down and write myself a letter
Thre will be some things that I have lost and won

You dont have to cry
The day when I die
Just read my letter and remember who I am

Some day I am going to sit down and write myself a symphony
I will put in every emotion that I felt
Some day I am going to sit down and write myself a symphony
The audience and your heart will melt

And you dont have to cry
The day when I die
Just read my letter and remember who I am

Some day I am going to sit down and write my friends a song
I will write one for every one of them
Someday I am going to sit down and write my love a love song
She will remember how true love begins

And you dont have to cry
The day when I die
Just read my letter and remember who I am
